RE: LED lights?

Oh, one more thing..........any blue cast to the light makes the food look less appetizing. And as for using an LED light to check rareness of steak you are cooking, FUGGEDABOUT IT! Bill, I discovered this too, after perfectly preparing medium rare steaks I took them inside under the led's only to discover they looked well done. Turned on the regular light and everything was OK. The DW refers to the led’s as "bug lights" :B

RE: Propane smell inside

Accidently, one time I did leave my stove on "Pilot" without the pilot being lit (not burning). I left the RV locked up for a couple days with the propane on to supply the fridge that was on (cooling). When I returned to the RV there was a terrible smell like something rotting, nothing specific, definitely not a propane type of smell and it did not set off the LP detector. After checking all over for a couple more days we finally discovered the Oven knob in the pilot on position. Strange but true, guess I fall into the "Idiot User" category OOPS!! :S

RE: need health insurance - too young for medicare - ????

I can only imagine the hardship on those who are in this situation, BUT let me say something. I know it won't solve your costs or issues, but I have seen many bail out of a job before retirement age or before they considered the health insurance thing and always hear we're only in our early 50's so not worried about it yet, I can use walk in clinics ect. It is so important to have insurance of some type anyway. My main point is to dispel that old adage I'm only in my early 50's so I'm ok for now. Disease and illness is not discriminatory on age or anything. I recently did an "RV.net blog on Full-timing/RV'ing and your health" to give a personal view on that old adage of the age thing and what I went through. Luckily I have my medical through my retirement. I feel for those who do not. Try your best to find something and I know it's hard, but after my personal experiences I can say don't forgo health insurance just to full-time. Being in your early 50's can be tough as I found out and had I not had coverage I would have ;lost everything and not quite sure the care I would have received. Fire dude has skillfully expressed a major concern. Many friends of mine have contracted a serious disease in their fifties, spent un-ending amounts for medical care in an attempt to survive, only to die a young and suffering death. One of my closest co workers learned in hospice counseling that the most deadly years are between 50 and 60. They told him that the actuary tables say that if you survive your fifties and go beyond sixty you will most likely live a very long time, but the odds were the highest during your fifties to get something serious. Get the insurance.

RE: LED bulb replacement advice

About three years ago I got a couple of these. I got the 36 led type and after about six months several of the bulbs burned out. They have a year warranty and they did replace them for free. They said there was a problem with the circuit board on the original ones and the problem had been fixed in the new ones. I eventually purchased four more and placed them in the main light fixtures on the side that comes on first in the three position switch fixtures (off / one bulb on / both bulbs on). So when we are dry camping I just turn on the lights with the LED bulb on only. They are just bright enough to see to get around and make drinks and cook, but most people would not find them bright enough to read by. Also they are not very consistent on the color, some are bright white and some have a green or yellow tint. Yes, they are expensive but we only have one battery so it works for us. We like them because instead of constantly turning lights on or off to conserve power we just leave a couple on due to the extremely low power consumption.

RE: Generator voltage varying with no load?

Voltage is set by engine speed.Is the engine speed steady I went out when I got home from work and did a bunch of experimenting, that's a little hard to do on vacation. It is not as bad as I thought, the variance is only from 124 to 132 volts and yes the engine speed is going up and down slightly. With a small load it stays constant and the voltage stays steady within two volts. I may have just never noticed this before as after you start the genni you are always looking to put it under a load besides the ones you don't think of like the converter and the fridge that switch on right away. I think I need to start a six pac before I start posting again and let everything solve its own problem. I always say "I do my best work by accident" Thanks for the help.....

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

After seeing the wonderful photos of Old Fella - I don't like either statue! Maybe an artist could make something from one of the photos? I don't know out of what or which photo - but it's just a shame that neither bronze really captures our beloved Old Fella. Maybe there's an art school or institute that would do it as a project and donate it??? That would save money as well as be a real statue of Old Fella himself rather than just finding one that will due. Any thoughts or comments???? Instead of a statue - what about a mural on a wall or side of a building of that great photo of Richard and Old Fella??? That might be interesting.... I was thinking the same thing but I was afraid to say anything.
